Festival of Russian Dance

Great Family Event. Exploring many traditions of Russian folk dance, this program will enlighten audiences to the haunting melodies, fantastic rhythms, and the excitement of the traditional dances in an accessible and mesmerizing display thoroughly updated to exhibit that these traditions live on in the modern day.
The dances are classified as pair, solo, or group dances. In the group dances, each dancer must contribute to and be a part of the team, while at the same time maintaining his/her own personal sense of individuality. In the pair performances, each dancer competes with his or her partner in areas of strength, agility, elevation, and bold movements.

McLean Russian/Slavic Cultural Festival

This fall's cultural festival will celebrate the cultures of Russia, the Ukraine and Belarus. The one-day event will bring the best of Russian culture, arts and crafts, traditions, music and, of course, food, to the community. There will be musical entertainment by the famous Balalaika Orchestra, with singing and dancing. Local Russian and Ukrainian restaurants will cater the food and various vendors will represent the traditional and modern arts and crafts, including jewelry and amber. Traditional artwork will be on display as well.
A children's crafts workshop will occupy the young ones. It is being presented by local Russian preschools. Non-profits, educational institutions and other Russian/Slavic organizations will be on hand to provide information.

Come hear about Anna's adventures at the Hermitage Museum in Russia, then have an adventure of your own, exploring Hillwood's Russian art collection. Meet Mary Ann Allin, co-author of Anna and the Hermitage Cats, listen to a reading of the beautifully illustrated book, and create your own artwork. Tours of the Mansion and gardens, café dining, and shopping are also part of this special Sunday opening.
Free with estate donation. Estate Donation: $12 for adults; $10 for visitors 65 and older; $7 for full-time college students; $5 for visitors age 6 to 18. Estate donation waived for visitors under age 6.
